The Origins of the Mhorai

The Mhorai were born from sacrifice and divine intervention, their very existence tied to the light of the Moon Deity Vaelora and the darkness of the ancient dragon Sykress. Mhorai are powerful, mystical beings, wielders of celestial magic and the legacy of Vaelora herself. Though their creator is gone, her spirit endures within them - a reminder that even in death, the Moon’s light will never fade.

🟆 The Descent of the Moon Deity

In the celestial realm, far beyond the reach of mortals, the Moon Deity Vaelora watched over the world. A radiant phoenix wyvern, her body shone like moonlight, and her presence guided the flow of life and magic. Unlike other deities, her following was small - a group of Zendar dragons deep in the forest of the tallest mountain who revered her light and sought her wisdom. But their devotion came at a cost.

One fateful night, Sykress, the Dragon of the Night, descended upon the land of Aldenmore. Whether driven by hunger, destruction, or a personal vendetta, she attacked Vaeloras followers, cutting through them with relentless fury. From her celestial domain, Vaelora saw their plight. She knew the laws of the divine - deities were forbidden from interfering directly with the mortal realm. To do so would mean sacrificing part of their godhood. But as she watched her few, loyal followers perish under the might of the ancient dragon, she made her choice and descended.

In that moment, the heavens trembled. As her divine form touched the land of Aldenmore, a portion of her celestial power was stripped away, punishment for breaking the sacred laws. Yet even weakened, Vaelora stood her ground, placing herself between her beloved followers and the raging dragon of the night. The weakened Moon Deity fought fiercely, shielding her followers as she defied the force of Sykress’s endless destruction. But she could not last forever. Even a god, stripped of their full strength, could not stand against the relentless force of the ancient dragon. Vaelora fell, her divine body collapsing like a dying star. Yet in her final moments, she struck Sykress with all the power she had left, forcing the dark dragon to retreat into the shadows.

The battle was over. But the cost was immense.

🟆 The Birth of the Mhorai

As Vaelora lay dying, her light flickering like the final glow of the moon before dawn, she turned to the Zendar who had fought for her. Their bodies lay broken around her, their spirits slipping away into the void. She could not save herself - but she would not let them be lost. With the last of her divine energy, she wove her essence into their fallen forms. She did not simply revive them - she transformed them. Their bodies changed, their forms shifting as they were reborn with the power of the Moon Deity. Their scales gleamed with new strength, their magic surged with celestial energy, and their very souls were now infused with Vaeloras divine flame. They were no longer Zendar. They were something entirely new. They were the Mhorai, the Children of the Moon.

Though Vaeloras physical form was lost, her spirit was never truly gone. Legends say that she will one day be reborn as a Mhorai, returning to walk among her people. The Mhorai live with this belief, honoring her sacrifice and watching for the signs of her return.
